THE TRAUMAS AND DRAMAS INSIDE THE INCREDIBLE WORLD
OF PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING

ABOUT THE BOOK

The world of wrestling is clouded with mystery. But one thing is certain, people are not lukewarm about it: They're either very hot or very cold on the subject, and it's peppered with controversy.
"Everybody Down Here Hates Me" is a behind-the-scenes, quasi-autobiographical look at the professional wrestling business and the characters which make it up.
But this book is much more than one about life on the mats, wrestler and author Pat Barrett takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of human emotions: There's humor. There's pathos. But most of all, there are the characters who once were only subjects of stories told orally by Barrett to close friends. Now they are brought to life by Barrett's pen for the world to enjoy.
Travel to the interior of the Isle of Fiji where supper with an island chief becomes a guessing game of what's for dinner and ends with a record-setting hangover. Move on to the hills of Tennessee where messing with a hillbilly's cows brings on swiftly executed justice - southern style.
Through the pages, catch the magic of the matches, as well as life backstage with the groupies, fans, promoters, families and life on the road from the incredible world of pro wrestling.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

When Pat Barrett is looking for sympathy or trying to distract the opposition in an argument over international politics, he lays on his thick Irish brogue and refers to himself as "a poor Irish immigrant."
Malarkey, this immigrant has been around the capitalistic block a time or two, and in this book proves he can weave a yarn with the written word. The professional wrestler has brought together a collection of spellbinding stories based on his career and life, both in the ring and out. Who could be better qualified than a seasoned international wrestler who's held, among his many titles, the W.W.F. World Heavyweight Tag Team Championship, World's Undisputed Junior Heavyweight Title, and numbers among his peers such greats as Andre the Giant, Hulk Hogan, Randy "Macho Man" Savage, Cowboy Bill Watts, Ted DiBiase and Bruno Sammartino just to mention a few?
Barrett continues his wrestling career from his Pensacola Beach home where he combines speaking engagements with his writing. Born in Dublin and formally educated at the city's Wesley College where his areas of concentration were economics and world history. Barrett has appeared in English and American movies, done television commercials and has stage and theater experience.
He and his wife Peggy enjoy beach life with their three dogs: Sammy, Champ and Rip, and a cat named Sinbad.
